Efficient doesn’t have to mean bland. The Chevrolet Bolt is no wallflower with bold details and a modern design. All trim levels include 17-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Energy Saver self-sealing tires, LED signature lighting, HID headlamps, LED tail lamps, and heated outside mirrors finished in gloss black. The liftgate incorporates hatchback styling with four-door passenger functionality.
As an all-electric model only subtle details like the Bolt EV badge and select blue accents mark it as environmentally conscious.
If you thought electric cars couldn’t handle real-life driving conditions, the Chevrolet Bolt powertrain is a game-changer. Its 150kW electric motor produces the equivalent of 200 horsepower. The Chevrolet Bolt’s torque is 266 lb-ft. and available from 0 RPM, making for extremely sporty off-the-line acceleration. As a direct-drive motor, there’s no multi-speed transmission to contend with, so the Bolt EV can reach 100km/h in just 6.5 seconds.
Previous electric cars suffered from an impractically short range. Not so with Chevy’s EV. The Chevrolet Bolt range is an estimated 383 kilometres on a full charge. That’s equivalent to 1.8L/100km in the city and 2.1L/100km on the highway! Even in less-than-ideal conditions, the Bolt is the perfect commuter.
The Bolt’s efficiency is due to a 60 kWh Lithium-ion battery with 288 cells in multiple linked modules. The Bolt EV comes equipped with a Regen on Demand (RoD) paddle behind the left side of the steering wheel. To use it, you simply pull back against the RoD paddle, and it will apply the maximum amount of regenerative non-emergency braking force available, without using the friction brakes. When pulled back, the RoD paddle will bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The paddle will provide up to 65 kW of regenerative braking power.
An argument against gas-powered cars has been the long amount of time it takes to recharge an EV battery, not to mention the lack of fast-charging stations in Canada. With the Bolt, you’ll be charging less and driving more. With a 383 km range, normal household 120V charging achieves 6.4km of range per hour, while at 240V (40kms/hour) a full charge is possible overnight in 9.3 hours. With DC fast charging, you can get 140km of range in just 30 minutes.
Because the Bolt’s powertrain is much more compact than an internal combustion engine, it affords more room for both passengers and cargo. Total passenger volume is an astounding 2,673 L, more than the midsize Malibu. There’s plenty of room for luggage with 478 L of cargo volume behind the rear seat.
Experience some of the best technology and features available in an EV. The Chevrolet Bolt has two trim levels, LT and Premier, and both are well-equipped.
The Bolt EV LT trim includes standard push-button keyless start, automatic climate control, a massive 10.2-inch diagonal colour touchscreen infotainment system, a rear vision camera, remote start, and Chevrolet’s Teen Driver system. A 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is also included on all trims, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.
The Premier trim elevates the in-cabin experience with a Bose premium 7-speaker audio system and USB charging ports, as well as ambient instrument panel lighting, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Camera Mirror, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist, and Surround Vision. Wireless Device Charging is also a standard feature.
For both LT and Premier trims, an available Driver Confidence II Package can be added on. It equips your Bolt EV with advanced driver-assist systems like Low-Speed Forward Automatic Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian Braking, and IntelliBeam auto-high beams.
Interior finishing in the Bolt is of the highest standard. On the Bolt LT, the deluxe cloth seat trim with heated front seats is standard equipment. For the Bolt Premier trim, choose between Dark Galvanized Grey leather and Light Ash Grey/Ceramic White leather with perforated seating surfaces. The Premier trim also includes heated front seats as well as heated outboard rear seats and a heated steering wheel.
On its own, the Chevrolet Bolt EV gives you savings year after year on fuel alone, all while driving and technologically advanced vehicle. That makes driving an electric vehicle like the Bolt EV nearly a no-brainer.
The Canadian Federal government takes it a step further, though, with an incentive program to make your Bolt EV even more affordable upfront. If you lease or purchase the Chevrolet Bolt, you may be eligible for up to $5,000 in immediate savings from the Canadian Federal government. There’s no need to pre-pay and wait for a cheque in the mail – it’s deducted from your purchase price at City Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC.
